KnightsKnights were very famous in the middle ages that was what most young men wanted to do.Being a knight was a complete honor. To become a knight you had to start training at age seven.before you become a knight you became a page and you learnrd to work weapons and work with horses. After you were a page you became a squire and you had to serve a knight . A squire did many things with the knight. on the 21st birhtday of a squire his skills would help him become a knight. His helping skills would be tested in a jousting tournament. when you are becoming a knight you would have a cermony. When the squire knelt down the older knight "dubbed" him by tapping him on the side of the neck with the sword. Now he was officially a knight. The only thing that protected the knight was his armor. Armor The purpose of the armor and the shields was to protect the knight. Armor was made of metal so bows and arrows wouldn't pierce them. Most of the armor covered the chest and the face because if they stabbed the knights in the legs they usually wouldn't be mortally injured. It was also very hot and heavy. It weighed about 66 pounds. When you wear the armor it feels like carrying a big screan TV. The knights used all different kinds of weapons. The crossbow was a type of gun that shoots arrows diffrently than todays bows. Longbows shoot arrows but they could not go through armor. Longbows could be fired in volleys. Maces were similar to a spiked club. Axes had wooden handles and at the end of it was a sharp point. Swords were used as a metal weapon with a sharp point So when the knights went into battle they protected well. Chivalry There was a Code Of Chivalry that all knights swore to and lived by. This code was very strict. The knights had to show faith in God, and show true love in Christian religion. The Code Of Chivalry meant that a knight had to be a gentleman. He had to protect the church, the weak, women and to uphold the law. The Code Of Chivalry was like a code of behavior.
