Snoezelen
When people who are mentally
disabled want to come to rest totally they can go 'snoezelen'.
Snoezelen is a new word that is mixed from two Dutch words:
Namely 'snuffelen' (sniffle) en 'doezelen' (doze).
When you go 'snoezelen' you are doing an activity that relaxes you.
And where your senses are challenged.
Your senses are your eyes, nose, ears and tongue.
Not
only people who are mentally disabled like to 'snoezel'.
We also like to take a rest.
We call it to chill out.
Someone who is mentally
disabled can rest in a cosy, quiet surrounding with soft music and soft light.
In this room there are soft stimulations like lights, sounds, smell and taste.
Tutors of serious mentally disabled people have noticed that their client respond
to the stimulations.
In
the 'snoezel' room there can be waterbeds, bed with balls, soft mattresses,
mirrors, a 'waterfall’ of lights etc.
Sometimes there is a wall that smells nice, or a wall where you can touch things.
