In the Netherlands there are homes in which
people need to share their bedrooms. They can’t choose their roommates
and they haven’t much privacy. But it doesn’t occur as much any
more. Everyone wants a bedroom of their own, mentally handicapped people too.
A lot of homes are being rebuilt so that everyone get their own room.
In modern group homes different ways of living are possible. Most of the time clients live in groups of five or twelve inhabitants. Everyone has at least an own bed-sitting-room.
Organizations
want to have a situation in which people are going to live in smaller groups
in one quarter. From experience they can say that people living in a quarter
make contacts in an easier way, and have more chats on the street. This is because
they can go to a shop or hairdresser by themselves. And they prefer to live
in a quarter instead of one house. They become more independent too.
