Being
in your room, doing nothing all day, can be fun sometimes.
But when you have to do this all your life then it is not much fun anymore.
This is the same for people who are mentally disabled.
It is nice to be out of your room and to see other people.
And being in another surrounding.
People
who are severely mentally disabled cannot work.
But others, who are less disabled can!!
It depends on the state of mental disability what kind of work someone can do.
Day activity centres
In Almere, there are several places, where mentally disabled people can spend
their day.
For example:
- ‘De Ratel, for seriously mentally disabled people. There is a ‘snoezelruimte’.
This is a special ‘recreationroom' for people who are seriously mentally
and physical disabled.
- ‘De Steiger’, where simple industrial work can be done. Like packaging
screws or the rinsing of glasses.
- ‘De Stek’, where they can take care of animals. That can be the
feeding of rabbits, or horses. Or cleaning the hutches.
- The ‘Atteljee’, where art can be made.
- ‘Trikado’, a shop with all sorts of smart presents.
- ‘De Kemphaan’, where work is done outside, like hewing through
wood. This is tough work.
- ‘De Tominggroep’, where there are many different things to do.
