Air History

Since ancient times people have thought about  flying. Early on people thought the only possible way of flight was if they copied the movements of birds. These however rarely if ever worked. But it wasn't until 1853 that the first manned fixed wing aircraft flew. From then on people began to try to make a powered aircraft. And of course, be able to control it. (the first airplane to fly was not made by Orville and Wilbur Wright. The first powered airplane to fly successfully was made by them.)

In 1844  a Russian scientist creates a unmanned powered gliders and it works. In spring 1903 Orville and Wilbur Wright try and try again. But each time they think it is going to work, it fails. Soon the two are severely discouraged but some how it works the next day they try. Finally in 1903 Orville and Wilbur Wright a manned powered flight that lasted 12 seconds. That day they made 4 more flights, the longest went 804 feet. However when they finished a gust of wind wrecked the flier but luckily they still had the plans and could easily make a new one, once the word of their success spread there would be no shortage of money. Since then airplanes have improved quickly. From the rough first flight to the modern
