If your rock's particles look almost like sand your rock is basalt and is an igneous rock.

If your rock's particles are a little bit bigger that fine grained but are not too big your rock is diabase and is an igneous rock.

If your rock's particles are big grained and feel very rough then your rock is gabbro and is an igneous rock.
