Behavioral Science
Did you know: the US produces the most serial killers. Up to 85% of the world’s serial killers are in America. According to an FBI Behavioral Unit study serial killing has climbed to an almost “epidemic proportion”. At any given time, there are an estimated 20-50 active serial killers. Those who change their targets or methods are often never identified. Experts speculate on what happens to serial killers. Some may commit suicide, die, be incarcerated, in mental institutions,  relocate, or stop killing altogether.
Prostitutes or people who lead almost nonexistent  lives are usually not reported missing in a timely fashion and receive little media or police attention.
 Types of Serial Killers
Roy Hazelwood, member of the FBI’s Behavioral Sciences Unit, now the Investigative Support Unit, studied crime perpetrated by repeat serial sex offender killers. Hazelwood identifies Caucasian males of European descent as the most likely perpetrator in these cases.
“Every single sexual deviation is overwhelmingly dominated by white males. And most sexually related ritualistic crimes are committed by white males.”
Hazelwood claims that there are two types of sexual predators: organized and disorganized.
An unknown who rapes and murders children and woman in his own neighborhood is known as “disorganized”.
A disorganized sexual predator will use whatever  weapons are available. Disorganized are opportunistic and don’t plan their attack.  They make no effort to conceal their crime.
An “organized” predator will hunt victims away from their hometown and victims that are strangers. The organized sexual predator is a planner, bringing “tools” with him. He will conceal the body and remove evidence.
“Anger/Excitation Rapist” are methodical planners. They may practice cruelty in relationships but their killings involve strangers.
Sadistic cruelty is fundamental to a serial sex offender killer. Restraints, ritualism, fantasies, and hatred are common. Sadism and bondage manifests as manipulation and mind control intensifies. Serial sex offender killers often regularly act out the sadistic fantasies they experience.
        Personality Profiling
A widely publicized personality profile in the Baton Rouge serial killer case suggested that police expect their perp to be a white male. The man currently in custody and that is being accused of the killings is a black male.  In the Washington, DC sniper case they suspected a white loner male. Two black men were arrested for these crimes.
In both cases, investigators juggled numbers. They also accepted the myth that serial murder is an interracial event. As a result of these and other miscues, recent news articles have questioned all criminal profiling.
No profile has ever caught a killer. The entertainment industry can disregard this fact; law enforcement cannot.
