Name derivation
:

The Broad-winged hawks scientiffic name “Bueto platypterus” comes from the Latin word "bueto" witch refers to a type of hawk or falcon, the Greek word "platys" meaning broad or wide and the Greek word "pteron" referring the hawks wings.

Size:

Average length-13in. Average wingspan-33in. Average weight-From 11 to 17 ounces.

Physical features:

The broadwinged hawk has an intigrated combination of dark brown and white feathers with a dark brown and white srtiped tail. A mujority of the wing is dark brown with a few white feathers dappled in. This bird of prey equipet with a set of razor sharp talons and sharp short pointed beak.

Habitat:

The broadwinged hawk inhabits mainly decidious and mixed woodlands from South Central Canada to the Eastern United States.

Diet:

Perched on a concealed bracnh high above the ground the broadwinged hawk will hunt a variety of small anphibians, mammals, birds, and insects.

Migration:

Broad winged hawks normaly migrate in large groops to Central and South Central America from September to April.
