Lizards are reptiles.  They come in many colors, sizes, and shapes. One of the types is the gecko.  Geckos are highly common.  There are about 750 different types of geckos.  Most geckos are nocturnal.  They have large eyes and can see very well.  Geckos are very colorful.  Geckos are carnivores and most geckos eat insects (crickets, springtails, and cockroaches) and meal worms.  If they are adults, they can eat small young birds, tiny mammals, and eggs.  Geckos can be as small as ½ inch or as big as 14 inches.  Some geckos’ feet have suction cup type things on their toes, so they can climb the glass of their cage or moss covered branches of a tree.  When a  gecko hatches the temperature decides if the hatchling will be male or female(see chart for details) .One of the geckos that there is a lot of in captivity is the Leopard Gecko.  The colors of a Leopard Gecko are yellow, purple and black dots.  They can become up to 12 inches long.  They have large yellow eyes and large mouths.  Although their teeth are very small, what their teeth lack in size, they make up for with their very painful bite(to a cricket of course).  If a gecko gets too scared or a predator attacks, its tail will fall off.  In time it will grow back.       By: Kollin
