When fire ants bite you they put formic acid, which is toxic, on the bitten area from the ant’s abdomen. One thing that may cause you to get a bite is if you threaten the mound. If you don’t find an ant hill in your yard you might find them under your patio, under your garage, or your home. If you find a mound of fire ants, you must kill the queen in order to eliminate the colony.
