Cottonmouths like to live in water. There they can eat all the things they like: fish, slimy frogs, tasty ducks, and small turtles.
They can live to be 20 years old.
They are called cottonmouths because (no, they don’t have cotton in their mouths) their mouths are white, like cotton.
They can be 4-5 feet long with olive, brown, and black scales.
Baby cottonmouths have much brighter patterns than their moms and dads. They get darker as they get older.
Their defense is to show their white mouths so the attacker will be startled, or in our case (unless you aren't human) see them. |
