Made Up Hand Signals One way to communicate without talking is to make up your own code of hand Let's say a spy puts her hands in her left pocket. This could be a signal to the other spy that they have been found out and are about to be caught. The thing that's different about using hand signals to send messages is that it doesn't involve the written word. You probably already know that people send each other messages using nonverbal communication. Using hand signals is a way to give special meaning to this form of communication. You can keep your signals as complicated or as simple as you and your contact want. Citations Books Hill, Laban Carrick. Spy's Survival Handbook. New York, New York: Tangerine Press, 2003.
