100 years ago people ate differently than we do today.  Look at all the things that have changed in the last 100 years.

 

 

 


1904- although invented in Waco, Texas in the 1880’s, Dr. Pepper first received national exposure at the St. Louis World’s fair.

1907- Milton Hershey, chocolate tycoon, opened Hershey Park, an admission-free amusement park in Hershey Pa 

1910- Ganong Brothers Ltd is credited with introducing the five-cent chocolate nut bar in 1910.

1916- July 4, Nathan’s Famous Hot Dogs opened a stand at Brooklyn’s Coney Island and held an eating contest as a publicity stunt that became an annual event.

1917- the sale of cookies as a way to finance troop activities began as early as 1917, five years after Juliette Gordon Low started Girl Scouting in the United States.

1920- Eskimo Pie, America’s first chocolate covered ice cream bar, was invented by Christian Kent Nelson in his home laboratory in 1920.

1921- White Castle, the world’s first hamburger chain, originated in Wichita, Kansas.

1924- January 29, an ice cream cone-rolling machine was patented by Carl Taylor in Cleveland.

1927- Eduard Haas III invented PEZ candy.

1928- Bubble Gum invented by Walter E. Diemer.

1930- April 6, Hostess Twinkies were invented

1937- Spam a canned ham by Hormel, was registered as a trademark.

1938- Instant coffee was invented.

1939- The Overland Candy Company introduced a malted milk candy product called Giants

1941- General Mill introduced Cheerios.

1943- Ike Sewell changed things back in 1943when he created Deep Dish Pizza.

1947- Florida Foods invented frozen juice concentrate.

1950- Sugar pops are introduced.

1951- Swanson introduces beef, chicken, and turkey frozen pot pies.

1952- Lipton’s dry onion soup was introduced.

1953- Sep 10, Swanson sold its first T.V dinner.

1955- Instant oatmeal is invented by the Quaker Oats Company

1957- General Foods Corp. introduces TANG breakfast beverage crystals.

1958- McDonald’s sold its 100 millionth hamburger.

1960- The “Poppin’ Fresh” Pillsbury doughboy was introduced.

1962- Research scientist Edward Asselbergs invented instant mash potato flakes.

1965- May 16, Spaghetti O’s was first sold.

1984- November 20, McDonald’s made its 50 billionth hamburger.
