Charles Nolin worked for the Pony Express mail company. Once he was going to deliver some mail in Sturgis, South Dakota and he was killed and scalped at the Nolin Monument by Indians. He was later buried there and moved to a cemetery.

Mrs. Poker Alice Tubbs

Alice Tubbs also known as "Poker Alice" was noted a woman gambler, a man killer, a cigar smoker, and a hard drinker of South Dakota was saved from spending many months in prison. Poker Alice was married three times the first time she married Frank F. Duffy of Leadville, Colorado. He was killed in a premature explosion in a mine. The second man she married was W. G. Tubbs in 1892. W. G. and Poker Alice had 7 children. (4 boys and 3 girls) W. G. Tubbs died in 1910 and was buried in Sturgis, South Dakota. One of Poker Alice's friends was Calamity Jane. Once Poker Alice got sick and laid in bed for 6 weeks. Old friends of Alice's came from near and far and stuck a $1 or $2 under her pillow. When she finally got up she found $265 in her bed. Poker Alice was born on February 17,1853. She was 77 years old when she died on February 27, 1930.

Annie Tallent came to Sturgis Country in 1874. She was the first white woman in the Black Hills. Annie died Wednesday Morning February 13, 1901 at her son Robert's house at 6:45.
