Habitat
Cheetahs live in the savannah plains.
They like dense savannah grass for camoflauge.
Zoo Diet
Cheeatahs
eat ground horse meat, beef, and rabbits in zoos.
Wild Diet
They tend
to eat hoofed animals less than 90 lbs (antelope, gazelle, springbok,
impala ), their young, rabbits, calves, birds, even ostiches!
Mating
Season
Cheetahs’
tend to mate on the dry season so their cubs can be born in the wet
season; but they can breed at any particular time of the year. Females
can breed at 21 -22 months (about 2 years), and males are drawn to them
in heat. The male only mates with one female, and are born in about 3
months.
Cubs
If the
mother needs to move, she will carry her cubs with her, keeping them
hidden until they are about 5-6 weeks (1 ½ months) old; which is
also when she shares her kills with them. She will wean them at about
12 weeks (3 months) old.
