Recovery |
Although there had been other
attempts at building a
seaworthy submersible structure, very few had accomplished it because of their primitive designs. The builders of the CSS Hunley, James McClintock, Baxter Watson and Horace L. Hunley, were determined to be successful. Something had to be done to help the Confederates in the Civil War. Their first attempt was named the Pioneer. Being unsuccessful, their second structure was called the American Diver. Although improved, they still did not have what it would take. Their third and final design was the Hunley. |
