Safety After the Hurricane

Scroll Down

It is important to stay put directly after the Hurricane. Downed power lines are dangerous, and trees are also likely to fall. Wind force could still be powerful enough to lash objects around. Even after the eye passes the hurricane, it can still be very dangerous. Also, watch out for flooded areas, which might be contaminated with bacteria that are very dangerous, due to downed power lines or the current.

The days following the hurricane you should be cautious. Debris will still be present, and possibly could be harmful. Don't walk or drive through standing water because power lines might still be down. Flood damage could also damage building's structure. Be careful when cleaning up debris because standing water can be a home to animals.
