Formation
Cyclones, also known
as hurricanes, form over warm ocean water. Hurricanes use latent heat
from the water. Latent heat is the energy that is unleashed when water
vapor is warm, wet air rises and condenses to from clouds and precipitation.
As more air rises more air is drawn into the hurricane. Hurricanes only
grow over warm water which gives them latent heat. This water has to
be at least 80 degrees Fahrenheit. The oceans generally warm during
summer and keep that warmness into the fall. Therefore hurricane seasons
last from June 1 to November 30. The hurricane spins because the world
is round and causes the Coriolis force.
