The Red Sox have had some different names and some interesting making of names. Before the Red Sox got the name they have today they were once called the Pilgrims, Americans, Beaneaters and the Somersets. The Red Sox got their name because of their red stockings. Some people come to believe that the spelling of “Sox” occurred when the newspaper people shortened stockings to fit the headlines.
