Positive Body Language

These body signals are your best bets when trying to communicate interest, enthusiasm or other positive reactions when talking to somebody.

  • Relaxed Posture – This would be when you are comfortably seated with no signs of stiffness or abruptness in movement. This helps to illustrate that there are no boundaries.
  • Arms Relaxed – Uncrossed arms and hands visible. This shows openness.
  • Good Eye Contact - Pretty easy, keep eye contact with the person speaking to you. This helps indicate that you are interested.
  • Nodding Agreement - Signals agreement and understanding. Unfortunately if you bobble your head too much may cause the other person to think you are tuning them out.
  • Taking notes - Helps to show great interest and involvement in the topic discussed.
  • Smiling/adding humor - helps to signal a warm personal relationship.
  • Leaning closer - Reducing the distance when two people are talking shows interest and that barriers are down.
  • Gesturing warmly - Talking with your palms up indicates involvement in the conversation and openness to the other person.
  • Flaring nostrils - If you're talking to a woman who likes you, you can tell if she's feeling a little amorous if her nostrils flare. Sorry to give you away girls. Boys, don't assume you can go in for the kill at this point, it may only be a fleeting moment for the mademoiselle in question. Her mind could also be elsewhere at that point in time; she might be thinking about someone else.
  • Touching the Neck - If a girl is interested in a guy she rubs or touches her neck frequently. She also lifts her head so that more of her neck is exposed, particularly when she is actively flirting. If you watch people at parties you'll see them doing it.

  • Rubbing the back of the head - Demonstrates that you're comforting yourself when saddened. It also shows impatience.

  • Standing with one hand on hip - is the opposite of the above. It's suggestive of 'openness'. It is a flirty, sexy gesture.
  • Hands clasped together or hands placed one over the other - Indicates deference and humility.
