Most of us have grown up with money being spent left, right and centre. It's very hard to imagine a world without money, as we know it. But will it change in 100 years? Or even a 1000 years? Here are our predictions for future methods of payment.

  • In the near future, pocket change will be eliminated. Already, people are testing new coins of new values, such as the 18 cent coin.
  • In 2105 bills will be nonexistant. Credit cards will be used for everything, and coins will only be found in collections.
  • In 3005 even credit cards won't exist. Instead, sales clerks will ask to see your hand. Even now, in 2005, people are coming up with new ways to double check your identity when you use a credit card. Even scent has been considered! Yes, apparantly, every person has their own special scent 'code' consisting of a combination of 30 scent 'sections'!
  • Other ways are being tested. Some scientists are experimenting with iris scans, which will identify you. Then, the amount you spend will be taken directly out of your bank account.
  • In the future, when taking public transportation, such as a bus, an airplane or a boat, you will be charged by how far you're going and how much you weigh, so the cost of the fuel burned while transporting you is covered.
