You will need:

* Two small cups of water

* Food coloring

* Sharp knife

* A white carnation

CAUTION: Do this
experiment with the help
of an adult.

Directions:

Step 1

Put some food coloring in
one of the cups of water.

Step 2

Cut the carnation stem in
two, length ways,
stopping when you have
reached the halfway
point.

Step 3

Put one half of the stem in
one cup and the other
half in the other cup.

After a few days observe
what you see in the
flower. Why does it
change this way?
