You will need:
* adhesive tape
* beans
* matte black paint
* cardboard
* shoebox
* flowerpot
* potting compost
* paintbrush
* scissors
Cut out two identical pieces
of cardboard,as deep as the
box is, and two thirds as
wide.

Cut a small hole in one end
of the shoebox.

Paint the inside of the box
and and the pieces of
cardboard the color black.

Using the tape that you have,
attach the cardboard to the
inside of the box.

Stand the box upright with
the the hole at the top.

Plant a bean in the flowerpot.

Water the soil and place the
pot in the bottom of the box.

Fit the lid on the box,making
sure that no light can get in
around the edges.

Remove the lid once a day to
watch the plant growing.

How well can it find its way to
the light? What happens if
you plant another bean and
this time closed the hole?
Do it at home and find out!
