October 4, 1959- Luna 3 orbits the moon. . April 1, 1960- Tiros 1 was the first successful U.S. weather satellite. May 5, 1961- Cosmonaut Yuri A. Gargar was the first man in space. May 5, 1961-Alan B. Shepard, Jr., was the first man to do a suborbital flight. February 20, 1962-John H. Glenn, Jr., was the first man to orbit the earth three times. March 18, 1965- the first space walk lasted 12 seconds, the man who took the walk was Cosmonaut Alexei A. June 3, 1965- the first man in the U.S. to make a space walk was Edward White it lasted 22 minutes. February 3, 1966- the first space craft to land on the moon was Luna 9. June 2, 1966- the first U.S. space ship to soft land was the Surveyor 1. October 11, 1968- Apollo 7 orbited the earth once. July 20, 1969- Neil Armstrong in the space ship Apollo 11 was the first man to walk on the moon. January 31, 1971- Alan Shepard was the first man to hit a golf ball on the moon. May 30, 1971-mariner 9 was the first space ship to survey mars. July, 1975- Apollo (18) and the Soyuz 19 are the first international space craft. January 28, 1986- the Challenger exploded 74 seconds after liftoff. ` February 7, 1999- The Stardust and Comet Wild -2 in January 2004. October 31, 2000- the Expedition one crew was the first crew of the ISS. September 22, 2001- Deep Space 1 completed it’s flyby.
