Dinosaur Characteristics

Dinosaurs were the first true vertebrates. They were also the first creatures to come out of the ocean. Dinosaurs ranged from a few centimeters to hundreds of feet long. They had dry bodies and epidermal scales. The scales acted as a protective layer from the environment and elements. Their strong legs, built towards the front of their body, had clawed toes. Most dinosaurs roamed on four feet, but many types of dinosaurs also had the ability to or did walk on two legs.Dinosaurs gave birth by laying eggs. The eggs were large, oval or sphere shaped, and yolk-shelled with embryotic membranes.

Dinosaurs were also very diverse. Most dinosaurs were herbivores, but many of them were also carnivores and omnivores. The herbivores fed on different types of plants, leaves, and mosses. The carnivores fed on the meat and carcasses of other dinosaurs and small mammals. Omnivorous dinosaurs fed on both vegetation and meat, usually which ever was the most available.
