Telemachus returns back to the palace and sees his mother. Later, he meets back up with Piraeus, a friend, and tells him to keep the gifts from Meneleus for now, and he also met back up with Theoclymenus, who tells Penelope a prophecy of Odysseus. As Telemachus is feasting, Odysseus and Eumaeus make for town. On their way, they are taunted by Melanthius, a goat herder. As they reach the palace, Odysseus is given bread and meat. Then, he is to make the rounds of suitors, while begging. Antinous thinks so low of the beggar and later throws a stool, which hits Odysseus.
