I have a question!
Where can I get:
How much each day do I need:
I'm just too tired / lazy / bored / busy to go
through all of the above.. Can I have a short summary of everything?
Dad / Mom / Teacher says
I need Vitamin D. Why do I need it?
We need Vitamin D absorb calcium. Without enough vitamin D, we cannot
absorb calcium from the food you eat. Then your body will have
to take the calcium from your bones. As a result, your bones become
weak, and you get diseases (just like when you do not eat enough
calcium..) such as osteoporosis.
If you jumped to this page, why not read about osteoporosis at
"What happens when I do not
take in enough calcium?"
Children can also get rickets when they do not eat enough vitamin D. As children's bones are still growing, not taking in enough Vitamin D can result in their bodies not being able to absorb calcium sufficiently. Hence, their bones cannot grow healthily.

Above are pictures of a boy having rickets. Now look what happens to the boy after receiving treatment for two years:

So now you know that Vitamin D is very important to us.
What
if I eat too much Vitamin D?
When
you eat too much Vitamin D, calcium is being absorbed at a very
high rate. This will be just like when you take in too much calcium.
One result of eating too much Vitamin D is kidney stones.
If you jumped to this page, why not read about kidney stones
at "Hey,
I've got a great idea! What if I take in more calcium than I need?"
As taking in too much vitamin D can cause the calcium levels in our blood
to be quite high, it can result in changes in heart rhythm and
kidney damage. However, do not fret. Usually, such levels can
only be obtained if you take too much supplements or cod liver
oil.
Hence, it is recommended that you take in enough vitamin D. Often,
just exposing yourself to sunlight will do. For more information,
check out Sources of Vitamin
D and Daily recommended
amt of Vitamin D.
