American Crocodile

This croc can grow to be as long as 20 feet. Some American Alligators are larger than some American crocs. Crocodiles get mixed up with alligators, but you can tell them apart by the shape of their snout, and how the crocs lower teeth stick out when their mouths are closed. They come out at night to feed. They are nocturnal. They rest in water by plants, or in their dens. They dig holes in sand or in the riverbank to make nests. This is the only croc that lives in North America. They are survivors of the age of the dinosaurs. They are cold-blooded reptiles. These crocs open their mouths so their teeth can be seen. That's their way of cooling off.
