Excessive amount of waste

Home and offices produce large amounts of rubbish and sewage everyday, resulting in piles of dirty and rotting materials. It can attract rodents and insects which may carry organisms dangerous to our health.

Excessive amount of waste is usually disposed by landfill and incineration method. Landfill method involves digging large pits in the ground. The waste from each day is placed in these large pits and then covered with a layer of soil. It is then left to decompose. After that, methane is produced and channeled into industries or homes to be used as fuel. However, landfills take up a lot of space. When one landfill is used up, another pit has to be created.

Incineration involves burning the waste at high temperature and this can reduce the volume of waste by 90 percent. The energy produced from the burning can also be converted into electricity. However, some types of waste cannot be incinerated. Burning of waste also releases dust particles into the air which cause air pollution.

Waste does not disappear itself when we throw it. If you do not want the Earth to be full of waste, start to use recyclable items.
