Butterfly Park and Insect Kingdom Visitors can view one of the world's largest collection of insects here and have close encounters with the 3,000 different species. The insects here comprise some of the world's most beautiful and rarest insects. Take a walk through the cool outdoor conservatory which has 1,500 live butterflies and the live pupae enclosure to watch the blossoming of young butterflies. The live insect display has a selection of live specimens which are separately enclosed in glass cases. Visitors can observe these highly intelligent creatures go through a variety of interactive, feeding and training sessions which demonstrate their natural abilities like spy-hopping, tail walking and vocalization. Fort Siloso Located at the western tip of Sentosa, Fort Siloso was built in the 1880s by the British to protect the western approaches of the Singapore Harbour. The new Fort Siloso experience takes visitors from Singapore ’s earliest days through the events of World War II in a comprehensive and cohesive fashion. Shuttled in a fort tram from the foot of the hill, guests will be dropped off at a new square, where they can take in a series of exhibits and films that detail Fort Siloso ’s history from its creation in the 1800s through World War II and beyond. From here, visitors may tour the fort’s structures and tunnels, experiencing along the way what life was like for soldiers and volunteers who served on Sentosa from the 19 th to the 20 th centuries. Popular attractions such as the “booming” 6-inch gun and life-sized vignettes depicting the lives of soldiers have been blended with more reflective exhibits that address the POW experience and Singapore ’s years of Japanese occupation. The role of Sentosa played during the Battle of Singapore is given recognition, as are the deeds of Singapore ’s local war heroes. The historical landmark also provides the perfect backdrop to the permanent exhibition, ‘A Soldier Remembers – The History of Blakang Mati’. The Merlion and Merlion Walk This mythical beast is the tourism symbol of Singapore. The 37m tall structure with a lion's head and a mermaid's belly is perched on a 23m hillock. The Merlion experience begins with a pre-show that introduces visitors to the mysteries of the sea. Mermaids, lake monsters, sea serpents and movie creatures will come to life ins eries of musical walk-through dioramas. The main theatre show cases Singapore's own sea mystery - the storm that threatened Prince Sang Nila Utama in the 13th century as he travelled to the island he later named Singapura or Lion City and the creation of the Merlion as a symbol of Singapore. A visit culminates in a trip to the crown to soak in the panoramic views. Located behind the Merlions is the Merlion Walk which stretches to the Beach Amphitheatre. It is a 120m long magical pathway. The walk weaves through statues of lively sea creatures spouting water jets in their colourful mosaic design. Visitors can witness the dramatic life of the diverse aquatic creatures from around the world. View beautiful and breathtaking underwater scenes housing more than 2,500 fish from different species. See brightly coloured fish amidst the coral life or watch seahorses anchored to plants. The rare and exotic marine mammal, the Dugong will intrigue visitors with its graceful movements. Catch a glimpse of deadly sea creatures like the Moray Eel, the Stone Fish, Lion Fish, Porcupine Fish or the Leopard Shark. For a 'hands-on' experience, visitors can discover the delights of stroking or handling a starfish at the 'Touch Pool' or simply take an awesome journey into the deep sea via the acrylic tunnel (with moving walkway) to watch rays, sharks, groupers and shoals of fish glide above visitors in spectacular underwater movements. Nature Walk -Dragon Trail The Nature Walk starts near the Cable Car Plaza. The trail meanders through a secondary rainforest giving trekkers a closer look at Sentosa's flora and fauna. Look out for interesting vegetation like the carnivorous pitcher plants and Tembusu trees. or catch a sight of long tailed macaques, squirrels, geckos and over 20 species of birds including a growing colony of white cockatoos. Admission: Free Sky Tower This eye in the sky is Sentosa's latest attraction. Visitors can enjoy a heightened experience of excitement at the Sky tower. Standing a top a hillock at the Sentosa Plaza, this S$6 - million iconic landmark serves as the islands focal vantage point. Soaring 110 metres in height, the sky tower is Singapore's tallest public viewing tower. Visitors will first enter into a large disc-schaped air-conditioned cabin fitted with glass windows all around, at ground level. revolving slowly as the cabin ascends up a column, visitors can catch 360-degree views of the surroundings whilst seated. Upon reaching the apex of its ascent at 150 metres above sea level (about 50 storeys high), they will be treated to a bird's eye view of Sentosa, the Singapore city skyline, neighbouring islands, Indonesian islands and even as far north as Malaysia. Day or night, views from the tower promise to be both scenic and breathtaking. Including Sentosa, there are only 14 such observation towers in the world.
