Celestial Geography

The Sky, like the Earth, also has its own geography. There are certain patterns and properties of the sky that are worth knowing about.

The constellations Taurus and Orion (Simulated illustration by Starry Night Backyard Planetarium Software).

Long ago, the sky was often envisioned to be a globe of stars surrounding the Earth. However, now we know that all these stars do not just lie in a globe-like formation; rather, they lie at different distances from each another.

Celestial Geography also goes hand-in-hand with knowing one's directions on Earth. The stars can be used to tell the approximate location you are on Earth, as well as the directions.
