Yin and Yang
Yin and
Yang are the most fundamental theory in the Chinese worldview, they represent
the theory of duality. The idea of Yin and Yang is used as a means of
understanding the nature and composition of everything in the universe, examined
as pairs of interacting opposites. And the relation of a yin-yang pair is seen
as a continuous cycle, e.g. nights follow days.
So what is Yin and Yang respectively? Yin is seen as a passive and negative state that is associated with femininity, cold, dark, quiet, night and winter. It is represented by the black side of the symbol. While Yang is just the opposite. And when you look at the symbol, you will find within each side is a small circle of the opposite color signifying the fact that yin and yang arise from each other. It also represents the idea of balance between the two forces and the certainty that extreme yang is converted to yin and vice versa.
