History
The only verifiable history of Tai Chi Chuan stretches back just a few hundred years to the Chen family village, Chenjiagou. The most popular style of the Yang family is radically different from that developed by the Chen family.

According to the history of the art espoused by the Chen family, it dates back to Chen Wang Ting during the seventeenth century.

In the nineteenth century, a young man named Yang Lu Chan was employed as a bonded servant in the Chen family village, where he learnt the Chen's martial art from Chen Chang Xing. This was the art that he took to Beijing and which later, after modification, became known as Yang style Tai Chi Chuan.
