History
Juet Kune Do
was started in around 1965 by a dedicated and intensified man called Bruce Lee.
Juet Kune Do rejects all restrictions imposed by forms and formality and
emphasises the clever use of the mind and the body to defend and attack. Bruce
Lee¡¦s Juet Kune Do emphasises the notion of deciding at the right moment in
order to stop the enemy at the gate. There is no clear line of distinction
between Juet Kune Do and any other kind if kung fu, for Bruce Lee strongly
objects to formality, and to the idea of distinction of branches.
"I stress again, I have not created or invent any kind of martial art. Juet Kune Do is derived from what I have learned, plus my evaluation of it. Thus, my Juet Kune Do is not confined by any kind of martial arts. On the contrary, I welcome those who like Juet Kune Do to study it and improve it."
-- Bruce Lee
Bruce Lee believed that the founder of any branch of Chinese kung fu must be more ingenious that the common man. If his achievement is not carried on by disciples of the same ingenuity, then things will only become formalized and get stuck, whereby breakthrough and progress will be almost impossible.
