  • Introduction-- Welcome to Face the Music, Emily's, Nona's and Karin's Thinkquest site for 2004. This site is designed to teach all about musical instruments. To navigate the site, use the gray sidebar to the left. All files will be displayed in text-only format (.txt). The site is divided into several easy sections, which you can read about to the right. Remember, URLs under the "Learn More" heading on this site will take you to other parts of the internet. If you would like to browse this site using full-view mode (sound files and images displayed), click here. Unless otherwise noted, everything on this website was created by the Champions 2004 Thinkquest team.

Purpose-- "Face the Music" is designed to teach kids all about musical instruments. Through our years in school, the Champions Thinkquest team has found that musical instruments are not taught about in school. This site's goal is to change that. Musical instruments are not only fascinating from a technical standpoint, but also the sounds they produce and emotions they convey are amazing. "Face the Music" explains and gives examples of many aspects of musical instruments: creation of an instrument, learning to read notation for an instrument, and learning the background behind all sorts of musical instruments.

Encyclopedia-- The encyclopedia is a compilation of descriptions, pictures, and sound bytes of many musical instruments. Browse through the encyclopedia and learn about instruments from the highest piccolo to the lowest string bass.

Create Your Own-- This section contains projects, step-by-step, on how to make your own musical instruments. All of the projects are easy to follow and complete. Learn to build your own flute, kalimba, and more!

Notation & Theory-- Notation and theory are very important parts of music because they convey how to play and finger notes on a musical instrument. Learn all about it here!
