Balloon Drums Balloon drums are an easy instrument to create. To make, you will need three elastic/rubber bands, a balloon, about 60 cm of string, a wrapping paper tube, wooden chopsticks (or two unsharpened pencils), and scissors. Balloon drums are easy to play and easy to make. How to Make It Cut your wrapping paper tube into three sections. My sections were 20 cm, 26 cm, and 30 cm long, but it doesn't really matter how long each section is. Don't cut the tube any shorter than 20 cm or it won't produce a good sound. Next, stretch the balloon out with your hands. Cut it into three sections. Each section should be as big as the top of each of the wrapping paper tubes. Using the elastic bands to secure them, stretch the one piece of rubber over the top of each of the wrapping paper tubes. Secure it using the elastic bands. Next, tie the tubes to the string. Leave about 10 cm in between each tube on the string. To Play To play, beat the top of the drum (the balloon covered part) with a chopstick or an eraser of a pencil. It works best if you hang the drums from their string or hold the end of string. Different pitches will emerge from different lengths of tube.
