Married to astronaut Jean-Pierre Haignere. She had one daughter.

Education

Graduation from FacultĂ© de MĂ©decine and FacultĂ© des Sciences. 1981: M. D. Rheumatologist, specialist in Aviation and Space Medicine. Certificates  in biology and sports medicine, aviation and space medicine and rheumatology. In 1986 diploma in biomechanics and physiology. Doctoral thesis Ph.D in Neurosciences in 1992.

Occupation

Her occupation before she was an astronaut was at the Rheumatology Clinic in Paris.  French Engineer Cosmonaut

Life Sciences

Contribution to Space Travel

She was the first French female in space. DeShay was the first European woman to work on the International Space Station in 2001.

Space Missions

From August 17 - September 2, 1996 she participated in the Cassiopée mission during which she performed a great number of experiments in the field of Life Sciences (physiology and developmental biology), fluid physics and technology. After the successful completion of mission, she participated in many scientific workshops and conferences thus contributing to further enhancement of data analysis and preparations of scientific programs of future projects.

Outside Activities

She enjoyed paintings, reading and sports.

Status

She is now minister for European Affairs in Jacques Chirac's government. She was previously minister delegate for research and new technologies
