September 14, 1958 in Wetumka, Oklahoma.

Childhood / Family

He grew up in Colorado Springs, Colorado, Riverton, Wyoming, and Plano, Texas.

Married with two children.

Education

He received a bachelor of science degree in applied mathematics from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, in 1983, and a master of science degree in aeronautical engineering from the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School in 1995.

Occupation

He was the mission specialists and the engineer.

Military Service / Civilian

US Naval Commander

Space Training / Specialty

Herrington reported to the Johnson Space Center in August 1996. He completed two years of training and evaluation, and was qualified for flight assignment as a mission specialist.

Contribution to Space Travel

He was the first Native American to walk in space.

Space Missions

He was on the flight STS-113. He was aboard the space shuttle Endeavour.

Outside Activities

He likes to rock climb, snow ski, run, cycle.

Herrington has logged over 3,300 flight hours in over 30 different types of aircrafts.
