INTRODUCTION
This is the site about dirt that is the solution for the world hunger. This dirt makes crops grow better and helps farmers grow more. What is this dirt? It was formed millions of years ago from the bones of prehistoric animals. It is called phosphate. Phosphate rock is found  in the ground and has to be mined. After mining the phosphate is separated from other"dirt" and sent to the chemical plant. There it is made into fertilizer, a substance that farmers use to make crops richer and larger. The journey from dirt to our kitchen table takes many people and lots of engineering.

Central Florida is one of the world's largest sources of phosphate rock. Florida has 600,000 acres of land that could be mined. A lot of Florida's phosphate comes from the Bone Valley . Bone Valley got it's name from the bones of animals that lived there. Even today, you can find a lot of shark teeth and other bony parts in the ground here. This part of Florida has a huge phosphate industry that employs many people. It was phosphate that brought early settlers to this part of Florida and the history of this part of Florida is actually the history of phosphate mining.

We invite you to explore with us the dirt that truly feeds the Earth!
