Phosphorus is found in every cell of living beings! All living things have phsophate - animals, plants, and people. Phosphorus is necessary for our lives.

Here is what phosphate does for living things:
Gives shape to DNA (Deoxyribonucleic Acid). DNA is where our genes are. DNA is in every single living cell. Phosphate makes backbonne of DNA. Scientists call theis a sugar-phosphate backbone.
Phosphate gives energy to our cells. This energy is needed so that the cell can work correctly. Phosphate gives  our cells enegry because it is a part of in important molecule. This molecule is called ATP or adenosine triphosphate (ATP). This molecule stores energy living matter gets from food and than gives it to cell so it can work.

Plants get thier phosphate from soil. People can get phosphate from the food.  Here are some foods and amount of phosphate in them:

Milk
93mg
 Beef
204 mg
Potatoes
56  mg
Broccoli
72 mg
 Cheese
524 mg

 OTHER PHOSPHATE PRODUCTS
About 90% of the phosphate that is mined is used to make phosphate fertilizers. Another 5% is used to make animal feed. Last 5% goes into making everything from sodas to toothpaste.
