Pearl Harbor was bombed by Japan on December 7th 1941. After the bombing the U.S. Congress declared war on Japan one day later. Three days after that, Germany and Italy, Japan’s allies, declared war on the U.S.A. The allies were U.S. Great Britain Russia. The axis were Japan Italy Germany At the end of 1943, 65 million people in the U.S. were making first aid items, uniforms, flags, military weapons, tires, bullets, and bombs.

Kids in the U.S gave up many of their own things such as toys to help win the war. People grew food in their victory gardens for themselves and to feed soldiers. Women left their kids in day care to work. Women went to work to replace the men in the factories who were fighting in the war.

Families with loved ones in the war hung banners with stars in their windows, one blue star for each family member serving. The star changed to yellow if a family member died. Soon Germany, Italy and Japan gave up and surrendered. The Allies Were victorious. The war had lasted five years
