Japanese Internement Camps
Japan bombed Pearl Harbor in 1941. After that the US was pulled into the war. After the bombing of Pearl Harbor, the Japanese- Americans were put in internment camps because people thought they might be spies.

Japanese – Americans had to leave their jobs and homes. Some families were split-up and sent to different camps. The camps were surrounded by barbed wire and armed guards. Many Japanese-Americans died in these camps. Several were shot by guards. Others died of disease and old age.

Though they were behind barbed wire, life continued as close to normal as possible. Children went to school. Church was held on Sundays and Baseball was played. Some young men left to fight in the war even though their families were being held prisoner by the country they were fighting for.

When the Japanese-Americans were released they, had nothing to go back to. Their homes and jobs were gone.
