Acceleration due to Gravity The acceleration produced in the body on account of the force of gravity is called acceleration due to gravity. It is denoted by ‘g'. at a given place , the value of acceleration due to gravity is the same for all bodies irrespective of their masses. However , it differs from place to place on the surface of earth. It also varies with altitude and depth. The force with which a body is attracted towards the earth gives the weight of the body. F=mg ---------------------------(1) Also, by newton's law of gravitation F= GMm / r2 --------------------------(2) From (1) & (2) mg = GMm / r2 thus g = GM / r2 | ||
