Sojourner Rover

Dimensions

The rover is a six-wheeled vehicle. Its height is 280mm, length 630mm and width 480 mm. It had a ground clearance of 130mm. It was mounted on a “rocker-bogie” suspension and was stowed on the lander at a height of 180mm.  

Power

Solar cells measuring 0.2 square meters provided power to the rover. Non-rechargeable lithium thionyl chloride (LiSOCl 2 ) D-cell batteries were used for backup.  

Communications

All rover communications were done through the lander.
