Parts of Spacecraft Contrary to the CTA, it is the warm part of the Obervatory. It contains two components;
Solar Panels assembly It is designed in a manner to provide electric power needed to operate the observatory for atleast 5 years. It is made of two solar panels and each contains 392 solar cells. These cells are capable of converting the radiation from the Sun to 427 Watts of electrical energy. Half the area of the solar panels is covered with solar cells and the half with optical solar reflectors. These reflectors reduce the temperature of the solar panel. Spacecraft Bus This part is an octagonal structure, which contains the avionics and the science instruments. The spacecraft bus provides electric power to the instruments, orients and stabilizes the sight of the telescope, collects data from the instruments and transmits it to Earth, commands the instruments to perform specific functions and communicates with the ground system.
