Mars Pathfinder spacecraft had two major components

  • the lander
  • a small rover

Parts of the Lander

  • Imager for Mars Pathfinder (IMP)
  • High gain antenna
  • Low gain antenna
  • Two solar panels
  • Wind sensor
  • Electronics box
  • IMP calibration target
  • Microrover

Power

Power supply for the spacecraft is through gallium arsenide/germanium solar cells. The cruise power is 250-460 watts.

Communication

High gain antenna and deep space network is used to telemeter data back to earth.

Propulsion

Monopropellant hydrazine and eight 4.4 Newton thrusters provide propulsion to the spacecraft.
