There are five different types of galaxies out there. Some are well known such as the Spiral Galaxy or the Whirlpool Galaxy. Others are a little less well known. Such the Elliptical or a Lenticular Galaxy are two of these. I will tell you about most of the galaxies out there.
Our first stop will be at a type of galaxy called a Spiral Galaxy (see example to the right). These galaxies look like they are called; large and flat, and "suprise" a spiral.
Our next stop will be at the Whirlpool Galaxy. Our very own Milky Way is a Whirlpool Galaxy. These like all galaxies are made up entirely of stars. Normally there is one large star in the middle. Here is a picture.
The third stop is a little known galaxy called a Lenticular Galaxy. Basically it is a mini spiral galaxy. Or it could be a very old spiral galaxy.
Next is a galaxy called an Elliptical Galaxy. These look almost like very big suns. These are made up of millions of stars.
Finally, the weirdest one of the bunch - Irregular Galaxies. They are made by some weird gravitational pull involving two or more other galaxies.
For all we know there could be a thousand more galaxies - each individual in its own way.
