Treatment for Heart Problems

There are a few ways, regardless of race, gender, age and hereditary conditions, that will help prevent high blood pressure.

  1. Acquire and maintain a healthy weight

  2. Be more physically active

  3. Choose foods lower in salt and sodium

  4. Only drink alcoholic beverages in moderation

The healthiest way to lose weight as a means of lowering your blood pressure is to do it slowly for a long period of time.  Increasing your physical activity is also in relationship to whether you participate in vigorous, moderate or light activities and the amount of time spent.  Physical activity may also reduce risk of heart disease and stroke, lowering the blood's LDL cholesterol levels and strengthening the heart.  After all, the heart is nothing more than a muscle acting as a pump.  Salty foods increase blood pressure, respectively a decrease in the consumption of these foods will lower blood pressure.  Stress also has the ability to increase blood pressure; creating a calm lifestyle and reducing some stress will help this problem.

As is shown, physical fitness and nutrition play a major role in treatment for heart problems that can be done without medical intervention.  Heart attacks, strokes and extreme arteriosclerosis patients should seek professional medical help.

In the case of a severe heart attack, nearby people may be able to perform CPR to help the victim until emergency medical technicians arrive.  CPR, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, is a technique used to sustain an individuals heart and breathing when they are unable to do it themselves.  It is recommended that the general public learn how to perform this, as well as the Heimlich Maneuver, to help other civilians in a time of need.

To learn about where you can become certified in these contact the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross.

Treatment for Respiratory Problems

Treatment for respiratory problems changes according the type of problem.  Breathing is a necessity of life and a source for many micro-organisms to enter the body, a reservoir for infectious diseases.  Many of these problems have no relief other than seeking professional medical attention.  Decongestants are often taken for sinus problems, as well as humidifiers and strong smelling medication externally applied.  The only assistance for asthma is having the ability to recognize the warning signs of an oncoming attack and using an inhaler.  Bronchitis, emphysema, tuberculosis, SARS, lung cancer and Avian Flu will either pass on their own or require a lot of medical attention.

An individual does have the ability to increase the performance of his/her respiratory system.  Exercise and physical activity allow the cardio-respiratory system to strengthen and lung capacity to increase, making your heart's job slightly easier.

Not doing things to your body is as important as doing things for your body.  Drugs as a whole have a negative affect on human's bodies.  Smoking cigarettes and other drugs weaken your heart and the ability of your blood to carry oxygen and carbon dioxide to and from the lungs.  Carbon monoxide is the worst of these inhalants as blood has a stronger affinity for this gas and will carry this before oxygen.  Once inside the blood, the carbon monoxide will not be released the way normal exchange occurs, creating a suffocating effect.

When dealing with non-communicable respiratory diseases, decisions early on are the source of treatment.  To cure lung cancer, do not smoke and try to not develop the disease by avoiding this major trigger.  Lung cancer does arise without smoking, in those cases medical help, alternatives to medicine or chemotherapy are often needed.

Atkins Diet

Unlike many diets, the Atkins Diet is a complete change in dietary lifestyle.  Through the use of four phases over the course of the individual's life time, the Atkins Diet benefits the entire body.  This new method of weight loss and health benefit is being researched by many.

Phase 1: Induction

Carbohydrate consumption is reduce to a maximum of 20 grams each day.  The carbohydrates eaten derive primarily from salads and non-starchy vegetables.

Phase 2: Ongoing Weight Loss (OWL)

Carbohydrates are slowly added to the died.  These carbohydrates come from nutrient-dense and fiber-rich foods.  25 grams are consumed on a daily basis for the first week, 30 grams for the next week and so on until weight loss no longer occurs. 5 grams are then subtracted from your daily intake to create a continue sustained, moderate weight loss.

Phase 3: Pre-Maintenance

The transition from weight loss to maintenance is done by increasing the daily carbohydrate intake in 10-gram increments each week until very gradual weight loss is maintained.

Phase 4: Lifetime Maintenance

Carbohydrate intake is still controlled to ensure weight maintenance and healthy eating habits.  "This lifestyle is the foundation for a lifetime of better health."

South Beach Diet

The South Beach Diet, similar to Atkins and used by many of the same people as a final stage to the Atkins Diet, is a dietary structure used to monitor the type of carbohydrates and fats eaten, rather than lower them as a whole.

This three step diet consists of "Phase 1: Banishing Your Cravings" "Phase 2: Reintroducing Carbs" and "Phase 3: A Diet for Life."  Quite similar to Atkins, this diet was developed by Dr. Arthur Agatston and has been clinically tested to eventually assist the individual's cardiovascular system.
