In the grand scheme of things, the lives of mortals may seem fleeting and inconsequential. Throughout history, therefore, societies and individuals have sought to leave their mark on the tablets of history and ensure the enduring resonnance of their culture. Often enough, artistic remnants, whether they be architecture, sculpture, painting, metalwork, etc., are the only representations of lives and cultures of the past that might otherwise have been forgotten and buried in the sands of time. Two societies that have had unprecedented impact on our own are those of Ancient Greece, Rome, and Egypt. One of the most effective and comprehensive windows we have been able to use to unveil and illuminate the rich pasts of these civilizations is through their art.
