Anatomy is the study of the human body.   

One of the early great anatomists was Andreas Vesalius.  Before people knew much about diseases in humans the surgeons would just cut off the area that was infected while the patient either drank beer or bit something. If scientists did not continue studying anatomy medicine would not be as good as it is now.
